Paul McPhee is an American artist born and raised in Southern California
and currently residing on the Island of Martha's Vineyard.
McPhee grew up with a love for the sea and through the use of
watercolors and oil he captures the beauty of the ocean and the life
that inhabits it. His extraordinary talent has placed him as one the
nations premiere marine life artists. His work has been featured in
major galleries and exhibitions nationwide, including Wyland and Hogue
Galleries.
McPhee, also a renowned sports fish artist, has been the
featured artist for fishing tournaments worldwide. His artwork has
appeared on multiple sport fishing magazine covers including Pacific Fisherman and Marlin as well as on a commemorative Florida Fishing & Game stamp.
In 1999 McPhee's cover album design for the band Great White
resulted in a Grammy nomination. McPhee was also responsible for
creating the major motion picture storyboards for the 2010
action-western, The Last Rites of Ransom Pride.
In 2005 McPhee was licensed by Universal Studios to paint a series of JAWSJAWSFESTJAWS art has since sold worldwide, and he is currently producing new JAWS-related works to be unveiled at the August 2012 event, JAWSFEST: THE TRIBUTE, on Martha's Vineyard.
McPhee has been involved in marine conservation initiatives
through the years and has contributed art to benefit the National
Coalition for Marine Conservation and Mote Marine Labs. In accompaniment
of his original JAWS art, he will be showcasing several original shark pieces during JAWSFEST: THE TRIBUTE
During his time on Martha's Vineyard's McPhee has been continually
inspired by the natural beauty of the Island. Many of his upcoming
pieces include images that capture the panoramic splendor of Edgartown
harbor, the rustic charm of Menemsha, and the agrarian beauty of the
Up-Island countryside.
